Oliver Martin Johnston, Jr. (October 31, 1912 – April 14, 2008)

Ollie was a sweet man, who was the epitome of the professional animator. A consummate professional with the eyes and heart of a child.

I feel a sincere loss at the passing of such a pivotal person in one of the truly American art Forms.


He was one of Disney's Nine Old Men, and the last living member. His work was recognized with the National Medal of Arts in 2005.

He was a directing animator at Walt Disney Studios from 1935 to 1978. He contributed to many films including Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Fantasia, Bambi and Pinocchio. His last full work for Disney came with The Rescuers, in which he was caricatured as one of the film's characters, the cat Rufus.

A shockingly shitty cartoon for the ages.

I don't expect any of you to do as i do. In fact, i can almost reccomend you ignore whatever it is i'm doing. Chances are it won't make sense unless you're me at that moment. However, because i often take the difficult way to a goal, and preciesly due to the fact that i am willing to suffer through some things to gain a better scope of the world and what makes it tick, i can sometimes offer to my friends and readers a window in to the horrors of life, without having to immerse yourself in the raw sewage of our collective mind.

I am pleased and embarassed to present to you BUCKY AND PEPITO. A cartoon that has been described by animators as having set "a standard for awfulness that no contemporary TV cartoon has managed to surpass.”

Let it load, skip the Live action intro, and go straight to the astoundingly bad cartoon. As far as i could figure out, an asshole rabbit, fucks with a cowboy kid and his Mexican Stereotype friend, and ultimately seduces a bull. The Mexican stereotype might be offensive, it it wasn't so incredibly retarded, and the John Waters rabbit with "His Boys" and the southern accent, is the stuff nightmares are made of. The Europa moment at the end is so confounding that you almost want to watch again to reassure yourself that you actually witnessed such incompehensible awfulness.

Last night I went to one of the best art openings i've been to in a while. Endlessly better than the Mark Ryden clusterfuck, THE ANCIENT BOOK OF MYTH AND WAR which I blogged about in OCTOBER of last year, is the collective work of PIXAR artists:

I had to haul my ass all the way to ALHAMBRA where I was extremely pleased with the manner that the Nucleus Gallery had set up the whole shebang. My friend, Jenifer bought an original piece by Scott Morse and I went Zany on the prints, buying four by Scott Morse and Two by Nate Wragg. The ABOMAW is an incredible exhibit, and a worthwhile jaunt to Alhabra. If however you can't seem to make it there, I highly reccomend you order the book on Amazon. It is some astounding artistic evidence that PIXAR is the preeminent source of animation and home to some of the finest artists around.

Today we'll see many awesome TV ads made by huge companies who paid millions of dollars to bring us what they may consider to be "The Best". However, I'd like to draw your attention to this little gem of a commercial.
